2007 CARDV Mother’s Day Run/Walk for Safe Families
Although cloudy, the rain did not fall on CARDV's 5th Annual Mother's Day Run/Walk for Safe Families on Saturday, May 12, 2007, nor dampen the spirits of the 274 participants!
Sheriff Diana Simpson officially started the race, then joined in and ran the 5K placing 3rd in her age division! 114 runners participated in the 5K run which started on Western St. in Corvallis and wound through Pioneer and Avery Parks.
Greg Contreras won the overall race in a time of 17:18. The first female runner to cross the finish line was Nicole Von Germeten with a time of 20:30. She placed 7th overall. Greg was in the 20-29 age group and Nicole was in the 30-39 age group.

Fun Walk:
160 walkers participated in the two-mile fun walk, which started at the same place as the run but then headed up Corvallis' lovely Riverfront Park. Walk participants ranged in age from 2 months to 76 years. Flowers donated by Stargazers Florists were handed out to the first three dozen walkers to cross the finish line.
Emceeing the event this year was Mike Parker, "Voice of the Beavers."
Family Fun & Safety Fair:
The Family Fun & Safety Fair is sponsored each year by local organizations to promote the concept of health and safety in our communities. Agencies participating this year included:
- American Red Cross
- CARDV
- CASA Voices for Children
- Corvallis Fire Department
- Dixon Recreation Center
- Old Mill Center
- Planned Parenthood
Kids had an opportunity to do fun activities at craft booths run by the Corvallis Montessori and Corvallis Waldorf Schools and to sit in the fire engine brought by the Corvallis Fire Department. The Bubble Table, sponsored again this year by Old Mill Center for Children and Families, was a particular hit with the kids.
Hungry and thirsty participants enjoyed the water and snacks donated by local businesses
Fred Meyer, Noah's Bagels, Pepsi Cola of Corvallis, Safeway, and Starbucks.
Also volunteering their time to lend a festive atmosphere to the day were musicians Fred Towne, Dick Theis, Diane Theis, Mike Thenel, Marion Thenel, Tas Thenel, and Seth Bernstein.
